While I incorporate different theories and frameworks in my work depending on a client’s specific needs, I am most often using a Family Systems Theory approach as the backbone of my work. Family Systems Theory explores the family roles we played growing up and how often times we continue exuding behaviors in our adult lives that emanate from those early roles. As adults however, we may come to realize that we may have outgrown those roles and need to find other ways of relating to ourselves and those around us.
In addition to Family Systems Theory, I incorporate Somatic Experiencing techniques through working with feelings in the body and their meanings, Parts Work techniques that help to identify the many parts of our emotional selves, and Mindfulness/ Awareness techniques to keep us from straying too far away from ourselves.
Most importantly, each client is different in terms of what technique(s) may feel most helpful. I recommend and encourage each client to speak to what might and might not be effective in their therapy process.
